Baní, Peravia province.-The President Luis Abinader yesterday inaugurated the Circunvalación de Baní, a work that reduces the displacement time of drivers and travelers in the southern region of the country, with a decrease of 40 minutes and up to an hour of travel.
With this circumvaluation, it seeks to divert the vehicular flow outside the urban area, facilitating the transport of people and goods, without affecting traffic and the environment within the town, while improving connectivity will allow increasing tourism.
Abinader said that this circumstance expected for more than 30 years, is not simply one of the public works, but is part of a development plan for this area.
“We are going to continue creating the conditions for progress … Our function is to take the works where they are needed,” said the president, who expressed his desire that the region will become a fruitful south, from which he hopes to go down poverty.
Eduardo Estrella, Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), reported that this work consists of 19.8 kilometers, 17 bridges, two input and exit distributors and a round trip toll, with a capacity of around 15,400 vehicles per day.
This, he explained that the Circunvalación de Baní would take these thousands of vehicles inside the town to streamline and alleviate the traffic of both the locals and those that go to the southern region or are directed to the capital.
He remembered how years ago, for festivities such as Holy Week, traffic became chaos when people tried to return to Santo Domingo, causing tapping up to two hours. That situation was not seen this year, since by the date they opened stretches of this circumvalaction so that there is a faster displacement of the vehicles.
“From today, you, taking this circumvaluation, you can take the Circunvalación de Santo Domingo and arrive at Punta Cana without a traffic light,” he said.
He pointed out that this work has a cost of 7.7 billion pesos and was executed through two contractor companies. Among the provinces that benefit are flint, Barahona, San Juan, San José de Ocoa, Independencia, Azua, Elías Piña and Bahoruco.

The president called on officials to double the effort to each criticism, responding efficiently and a positive attitude. He said that someone, given the criticisms made by the opposition, recommended showing the works, to which he replied:

The Senator of Peravia, Julio Fulcar, said that the Circunvalación will open new paths of roads and opportunities for the people, this work being the most important in the entire southern region.
