According to the entity, for measures to have effect, it is essential that companies, especially small and medium, have quick access to government program actions to mitigate impacts. Called the Sovereign Brasil Plan, the Provisional Measure was published today in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union.

“Firjan reinforces, once again, the importance of continuing dialogue between governments, with support from the business sector, to seek negotiated solutions and preserving the business environment and investments between countries. Just as the Federation also advocates the need to implement the opening of new markets,” he said in a statement.

Firjan’s estimate is that 2% of Rio de Janeiro exports will be subject to the rates implemented by the Donald Trump government, based on total exports of 2024. Among the affected sectors are food and beverage, plastic, chemical, textile and fish.

FIEMG: Palliative measures

The Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG) said it recognized that the measures of the Sovereign Brazil Plan represent an effort to contain part of the losses with the tariffs imposed by the US to Brazilian products. However, according to the entity, the real impact on the preservation of Brazilian industrial competitiveness will depend on the agility in the execution of measures and the elimination of bureaucratic barriers so that resources actually reach the productive sector.

According to FIEMG President Flávio Roscoe, the actions presented do not replace the need for a structural and diplomatic solution.

“The measures can give companies some breath, but they do not solve the root of the problem. It is urgent that Brazil maintains firm and productive negotiations with the US government, seeking to reverse tariffs and safeguard a strategic business relationship. If there is no speed in implementation and clarity in the rules, the risk is that resources and incentives are on paper,” he said in a statement.
