The community of Cajicá, Cundinamarca, lives moments of anguish for the disappearance of Valeria Afanador Cárdenasa 10 -year -old girl with Down Syndrome, lastly seen on the morning of Tuesday, August 12, 2025. The youngest, student of the Los Laurels Campestre Gymnasium, was captured by the safety cameras of the squad around 10:30 am, when it was headed towards an area of shrubs next to the fence that borders the Frío River sector. Since then, there has been no trace of it.

The authorities of Cundinamarca have deployed a wide search operation that involves more than 180 people, including members of the National Police, Gaula, Firefighters, Army, Red Cross, Civil Defense and Personal of the Mayor’s Office. The tasks include sweeps by land and water, use of drones, boats, trained dogs and the review of recordings of security cameras in the area. Governor Jorge Emilio Rey confirmed that the actions intensified since the early hours of Wednesday, August 13.
Valeria’s disappearance has also mobilized the educational community and neighbors of Cajicá, who have joined the search teams to travel surrounding areas to school and the riverbank. Authorities have asked citizens not to disseminate unconfirmed information and channel any data through official numbers enabled for the case.


In the midst of despair, the girl’s mother reported having received calls from people who claim to have information about Valeria’s whereabouts and demand money in return. These facts, which have been classified as extortion attempts, are being investigated by the authorities, who have warned that it is a crime that hinders the search and puts the life of the child at risk.
Valeria measures approximately 1.32 meters, is thin contexture, has brown hair and the day of her disappearance dressed the sports uniform of the school: blue diver and dark blue pants with the institutional shield. He wore his hair collected in a tail. The authorities have disseminated their physical description and photographs to facilitate their identification and location.

The family and authorities reiterate the urgent call to report any clue that helps to find the whereabouts of the child, underlining that every minute counts in this search that keeps the entire municipality in suspense.
