The federal government launches this Wednesday (13) package of measures to support the productive sector affected by the 50% tariff imposed by the United States government. The support plan provides for R $ 30 billion in credit and will be made possible through a provisional measure called MP Brasil Sovereign.
During the announcement of the Socorro Plan, at the Planalto Palace, Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said that Brazil is being sanctioned “because it is more democratic than the aggressor.”
“We are in a very unusual situation. Brazil is a country that is being sanctioned because it is more democratic than its aggressor. It is an unprecedented and very unusual situation in the world. A country that does not pursue opponents, does not pursue the press, does not pursue universities, does not pursue legal or illegal immigrants is subject to unjustifiable retaliation from the political and economic point of view.”
“We will face, as we have already faced several difficult situations in this country. And we will overcome more this difficulty that is imposed from the outside in, but unfortunately with the support of some radical sectors of Brazilian society,” added the minister during the event.
Priorities
According to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the plan will give priority to the smallest companies and perishable food. “We are thinking of helping small businesses, which export spinach, fruits, honey and other things. Machine companies. Big companies have more resistance power. I think it will be important for us to show that no one will be helpless for President Trump’s taxing,” the president said in an interview with Band News.
The measures package also seeks to preserve jobs and expand alternative markets to the affected sectors.
“Let’s take care of the workers of these companies, we will try to find other markets for these companies. We are sending to other countries the list of companies that sold to the United States because we have a motto: no one drops the hands of anyone.”
Help measures will come through extraordinary budget credit, resources used in emergency situations outside the fiscal framework limit. This system was used last year to help the victims of floods in Rio Grande do Sul.
