Among the crimes that the US denounces that they were committed in Venezuela, arbitrary executions, disappearances, torture, arbitrary arrests, transnational repression against foreigners and the “recruitment or illegal use of children by groups supported by mature in armed conflicts”

Donald Trump’s administration presented its first Official Report on Venezuela in which he assured that the human rights situation “worsened significantly”, especially after the presidential elections of 2024, when “serious abuse” were recorded by Nicolás Maduro.

Among the faults that the US documented, a pattern of violations that includes extrajudicial executions, arbitrary arrests, torture, forced disappearances, severe restrictions on press freedom, transnational repression, “recruitment or illegal use of children by groups supported by Maduro in armed conflicts” and the existence of networks of trafficking of persons and affirmed that against these crimes have not been taken.

One of the most emblematic cases was the death of the opponent Edwin Santos, whose body appeared two days after being seen in custody of security forces. While the body of investigations, scientific, criminal and criminal (Cicpc) attributed death to a motorcycle accident, the opposition held the government responsible.

The United States also denounced that the authorities used digital platforms to harass opponents through campaigns such as the “Operation Tun Tun”, which disseminates personal data from alleged dissidents.

In this regard, the report said that none of these facts was investigated in a credible way, consolidating a scenario of structural impunity.

The international community has warned that repression after 28J confirms the consolidation of a state apparatus that uses violence, fear and censorship as tools to stay in power.
