Self-esteem and economic independence of women in Latin America

The nonsense of the spokesman

The negative effects that the pandemic has brought to the closing of social and economic gaps for women in Latin America are undeniable. The figures provided by different entities at a global level highlight the urgent need to find solutions that allow women to access greater opportunities for economic and educational income.

In this context, financial autonomy becomes a central issue in the search for solutions to this phenomenon that mainly affects Latin America. Undoubtedly, increasing economic equality for women would reduce the poverty rate in the population and allow generations of girls and adolescents to build a different future from now on.

And it is that when we focus on generating alternatives and solutions to achieve the economic freedom of women in the region, we are not only positively impacting the possibility of access for the construction of a better quality of life, but we also contribute directly to strengthening the empowerment and the self-esteem of women in the region, who according to a World Bank report, represent 41.6% of the economically active population in Latin America and the Caribbean.

From the DNA that, as a company, we have had for more than 50 years, we have assumed the commitment to be agents of change and to have actions that have a positive impact on the self-esteem of women as a broad issue in which financial autonomy, added to freedom of expression, bodily autonomy, accessibility and visibility, become the fundamental axes for the defense and promotion of girls, adolescents and Latin American women who are increasingly empowered and with more, but above all, with quality opportunities that seek to reduce the inequality gaps that we still have today.

According to the Global Report of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) for 2000 and 2021, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East are the regions with the highest female representation in the entrepreneurship ecosystem, even above Europe and North America. These figures indicate the clear potential and at the same time the great challenges that we as a region have to continue generating formulas that make entrepreneurship a viable, solid and sustainable alternative for women in the region.

At Yanbal we are convinced that a fundamental way for Latin American societies to prosper is to develop opportunities for women to be free and independent.
