The new US ambassador to Paraguay, Marc Ostfield, presented his credential letters to the national foreign minister, Euclides Acevedo, on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Ostfield, who arrived in the country on February 25, thus began the process that accredits him as Washington’s ambassador to Paraguay, the US diplomatic delegation highlighted on its Twitter account.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the presentation of the credential letters was an “opportune” occasion to review the main issues on the bilateral agenda, including “the road map built between the two countries.”
Both officials also ratified their interest in continuing with international cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime and cybercrime, among others.
Ostfield, a career diplomat who served as an ombudsman for the State Department and with more than 30 years of experience in foreign policy, was nominated in June last year by US President Joe Biden as his representative in the country. south american

The National Foreign Ministry highlighted the “career and experience” of the new ambassador in combating bioterrorism and corruption.
The official will replace Lee McClenny, who headed the US legation in Asunción until September 2020, after more than two years of service.
