The National Taxes and Customs Directorate (DIAN) of Colombia He launched a preventive campaign to warn citizens about the circulation of false messages that, under the appearance of official notifications, They seek to steal personal and financial information. In recent months, these types of scams have increased, taking advantage of the confusion and sense of urgency generated by the limit dates of tax procedures. How to be alert?

Criminals use channels such as text messages, emails and even instant messaging applications to supplant Dian’s identity and get people to deliver sensitive data or make unauthorized payments.

The scammers’ strategy usually includes alarming messages that warn about alleged debts, imminent sanctions or fiscal irregularities. To give credibility to deception, they insert shorted links or web addresses that mimic the official pages of the entity. Once the victim agrees, personal information is requested that can be used to commit other crimes.

This type of fraud has shown a worrying increase in recent years, since criminals take advantage of technological tools to supplant official entities and deceive taxpayers.

Given this panorama, the DIAN insists that it does not request personal data through text messages or external links and that all official communication is carried out through its institutional channels. The campaign, under the motto #Verifiquesienteseguro, seeks that the taxpayers remain alert and verify the authenticity of any notification before acting.

Modality of deception

The detected modality consists in sending messages with an urgent tone, which appear to be sent by the DIAN and include suspicious links. A recent example is:

“Dian: Your fiscal status presents Mora. Avoid interest, sanctions and coercive charges. Deadline date 08/31/2025. Information: Bityl.co/Digov.”

To avoid falling into this type of fraud, the Dian recommends:

• Do not click unknown or shortened links.
• Do not deliver personal data, passwords or bank information by unofficial media.
• Always consult directly on the official portal of the Dian OA through its attention lines.
• Distrust of messages that generate fear or pressure to act immediately.

Who declares rent?

The scams are given in the framework of income statements by citizens. For this you must take into account if it is included in the group that this procedure must perform:

1. Gross heritage greater than 4,500 UVT
If as of December 31, 2024 your gross assets are equal to or greater than 4,500 units of tax value (UVT), that is, $ 211,793,000 COP, you are obliged to declare income.

2. Gross income equal to or greater than 1,400 UVT
If during 2024 your gross income was equal to or greater than 1,400 UVT, that is, $ 65,891,000 COP, you must submit the statement.

3. Credit consumption higher than 1,400 UVT

5. Bank consignments, deposits or investments greater than 1,400 UVT
If the accumulated total value of your bank consignments, deposits or investments in 2024 was greater than 1,400 UVT, that is, $ 65,891,000 COP, you are forced to declare rent.
