Luis Abinader highlights health and safety achievements in their governments

Santo Domingo.-They for four days that President Luis Abinader turns his first year in his second term, yesterday presented a balance of the main indicators achieved by his management in the last five years, highlighting advances in key areas such as health, education, citizen security, housing, economy and poverty reduction.

The Head of State began his presentation with the Health line, specifying that the country has experienced significant improvements in several indicators. The life expectancy at birth went from 73.5 years in 2016 to 75.1 in 2024, with a 77 -year goal by 2028.

Neonatal mortality was reduced by 15.5 %, while infant mortality dropped from 20.9 in 2019 to 15.9 in 2024. Likewise, adolescents pregnancies descended from 74.4 to 67.9 per thousand, and social security coverage was extended with 2.1 million new affiliates.

He highlighted the impact of the most health program, more life expectancy, based on the Hearts strategy, which offers free and state -of -the -art treatment of patients with hypertension and diabetes, already benefiting 400,000 people and with the projection of reaching 1.2 million.

The hospital network was also strengthened with the construction or remodeling of 90 hospitals, the opening of 625 primary care centers and an increase in the proportion of doctors and nurses per 100,000 inhabitants.

In terms of security, Abinader stressed that the homicide rate in the Dominican Republic fell from 23.4 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2012 to 8.3 in 2025.

The registered crimes went from 1,702 in 2019 to 1,524 in 2024. He attributed these achievements to the implementation of the joint task force, the new police patrol model and the incorporation of more than 8,000 agents in recent years.

As for housing and degree, between 2020 and 2025 the Government delivered more than 15,500 homes to low -income families and executed housing improvements through the Dominican program is reconstructed.

The qualitative housing deficit was reduced from 32.2 % in 2018 to 27.6 % in 2024, with the goal of reaching 21.87 % in 2028.

In the economic field, the Gross Domestic Product per capita went from $ 8,603 in 2019 to $ 11,541 in 2024.

Foreign direct investment reached a record of 4.5 billion dollars that year, while total exports reached 12,925 million, driven by tourism and free zones.
