The Judiciary sentenced Yanet Ballesteros to 25 years in prison for the crimes of trafficking in persons for the purpose of sexual exploitation and sexual exploitation of minors, both aggravated by their participation in a criminal organization.
The application was submitted by the second office of the Specialized Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against the Organized Crime of Arequipa – Team 2.
During the trial, the provincial prosecutor Rosmery Mendoza Palomino showed that, in December 2022, the now sentenced, in her role as administrator of the Transnational Criminal Organization ‘Tren de Aragua’, ordered the capture, transport and transfer of adolescents between 15 and 17 years from Venezuela to Arequipa, using routes controlled by members of the illegal network in the borders of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador.
In that sense, a conviction against Jaiderline Benavidez was achieved, who was sentenced to six years in prison for his participation as a secondary accomplice in the crime of sexual exploitation, to the detriment of one of the adolescents identified during the investigation.
The victims were captured by deceptive promises of employment and, once in Peru, they underwent sexual exploitation under death threats, in order to pay sums of money imposed by the criminal organization.
In January 2023, during a joint operation between the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office against the Organized Crime of Arequipa and the National Police of Peru, the rescue of the minor victims was achieved.
