The FAR business complex handles billions of dollars while the population suffers a serious humanitarian crisis.

Miami, United States. – Cuban -American legislators from southern Florida announced new initiatives to press the Cuban regime and governments that support it, after The publication of confidential documents that reveal a fortune of billions of dollars in the hands of the Gaesa military conglomerate.

According to an investigation of Miami Heraldthe Business Administration Group (GAESA), controlled by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, had 18,000 million dollars in assets as of March 2024, of which 14,500 million were deposited in unidentified bank accounts and in their own financial institutions.

The revelation, based on accounting documents obtained by the newspaper, openly contradicts the official discourse of Havana that attributes the economic crisis of the country exclusively to the American embargo. Gaesa operates in strategic sectors such as tourism, retail trade, banking and import-export, and channels a large part of the country’s foreign exchange income, despite being low sanctions of the US government.

“The regime in Cuba is not only murderous and cruel, but deeply corrupt,” said Republican congressman Carlos Giménez to Herald. “It has billions hidden in banks while the Cuban people suffer. Those funds were stolen from the Cuban people, and we will use all diplomatic and legal tools to freeze those assets and embarrass the complicit foreign governments that benefit from oppression.”

Giménez said he will work with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to demand accountability to the regime and his allies. For its part, Mario Díaz-Balart He stood out in his X account that his bill of assignments for fiscal year 2026 “guarantees that not a single penny of the American taxpayer” will support the Cuban regime.

Along the same lines, María Elvira Salazar lashed out at the regime’s speech that holds the seizure of the blackouts, hunger and the shortage of medicines. “The true blockade of Cuba is the criminal dictatorship that governs it. While the people are starving, without light or medicines, the Castro regime blames the US embargo. Lie! The reality is that the military dome, through Gaesa, hides billions of dollars while demanding ‘resistance’ to the people” wrote.

“They use that money to spy, censor and repress, not to feed Cubans or cure them. The problem is not the embargo, the problem is a communist mafia that has been stealing the life of the Cuban people for decades. They do not need help, they need to be eradicated to power and judged by their crimes,” he added.

The documents reviewed by the Herald They detail that Gaesa obtained $ 2.1 billion in net profits during the first quarter of 2024, and 7.2 billion in the first eight months of 2023, a time that coincides with a generalized collapse of the electrical system and The application of the Cuban Government of Humanitarian Aid at the UN to guarantee the milk of young children.

Meanwhile, Havana has avoided responding to revelations. Neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor the Comptroller General have issued statements in this regard, and official diplomatic accounts, usually active to publications in the US press, have remained silent.

Gaesa’s finances are classified as military secret in Cuba. They are not accessible to other government institutions nor are they subject to audits by the Comptroller, which increases opacity on the true economic scope of the military apparatus.
