Gaesa operates in strategic sectors such as tourism, retail trade, banking and import-export, and channels a large part of the country’s foreign exchange income, despite being low sanctions of the US government.
“The regime in Cuba is not only murderous and cruel, but deeply corrupt,” said Republican congressman Carlos Giménez to Herald. “It has billions hidden in banks while the Cuban people suffer. Those funds were stolen from the Cuban people, and we will use all diplomatic and legal tools to freeze those assets and embarrass the complicit foreign governments that benefit from oppression.”
Giménez said he will work with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to demand accountability to the regime and his allies.
