Bogotá does not stop growing and the works on their ways are ‘bread of each day’ for citizens.
In talk with portfolio, Mónica Rueda, director of the Road Maintenance Unit (UMV) (entity that Make the conservation of different spaces of the capital road subsystemamong them intermediate and local roads, cyclorrutas conservation and public space), took a balance of what the entity has managed in almost two years of mayor of Carlos Fernando Galán and what remains for those missing.

How is 2025 in projects and execution?
In the district entities we have annual goals and goals for the entire development plan for all 4 years of each administration. This year, our goal is to execute 300 kilometers lane of track, which It consists of an average width of 3.5 meters And it goes all the kilometer. And that goal that we have planned for 2025 is between local, intermediate roads, an arterial part and rural part. At this time, we go in 109 kms execution lane of this goal. We are working and organizing a plan to culminate with the objective of this year. We also have the investment item and this year we have invested 80,000 million pesos inside.
As for cyclorrutas and public space, We have intervened 4.41 km and 9,000 square metersrespectively.
And what is the balance in the almost two years we have with Mayor Galán and the projections for what remains?
The first thing is that between June 2024 and June 2025, the investment we have made has been 180,000 million pesos. Among the goals we have for the whole period are the conservation of 1,365 kms road lane, including premises, intermediate, rural and arterial. For cyclorrutas, the goal is to attend 47 kms. And in public space, 73,300 square meters. For what is the entire period of four years, we have assigned resources of about 500,000 million pesos.
We hope to fulfill them and meet community requests.
Currently, what areas of Bogotá that require the most intervention by the UMV?
We have identified the localities of Fontibón, Bosa and Engativá such as greater difficulties in intermediate and local roads. We make a constant diagnosis and the localities that we find with a high percentage of affectations and difficulties in intermediate and local roads are those of Fontibón, Bosa and Engativá.
What are the localities in better conditions?
At this time, all locations have some important affectation in their road mesh, but we can say that Usaquén and Tunjuelito are those that have lower problems, which does not mean that they do not need maintenance on their ways.

How many holes does Bogotá have at this time?
It would be a fantasy to give that data and say that we have a clear figure, which is something that many people would like. Us within the diagnosis, We have been able to count more than 25,000 hollows on intermediate and local roads. What about that data? That two or three new holes may appear every day. It is very difficult to say, from any entity, the number of exact holes because it is not so easy because of the conditions that the roads have.
If we talk about money, how much would be needed to make the city without holes?
There are two different points: one, a Bogotá without holes. Two, that we have complete maintenance of all the road mesh. So, when we talk about the holes, it is a bit difficult to have an exact figure because we have new every day. What we have done is talk from the different district entities Related with mobility and it has been counted that 11 billion pesos are required to do all the road mesh of the capital. That includes not only covering the holes, but all the treatments that are required to guarantee a good condition.
How is the articulation work they do from the UMV with the IDU, for example, at a time when there are so many road works in Bogotá?
We carry out work tables with the IDU and the local mayors who also develop activities on the subject of road mesh. We meet, we define which ways each of the entities will intervene to be able to coordinate and have comprehensive interventions.
The IDU, meanwhile, has an application called Sigidu, in which each entity requests the reservation of the roads that will intervene. So with that we can better coordinate the work.

How much employment does the UMV generate?
We have 639 people. Of them, 109 are plant and contractors. The rest is part of workers that we have through the union, people who are on site, who carry out the activities, both nocturnal and diurnal.

The UMV explained that there are different ways in which citizens can communicate and report problems in road mesh. One option is to do it on the website, which is www.umv.gov.co. Another is to report the situation on the social networks of the unit. In both cases, people leave their requests to be processed. “We take care of making the verification and we respond to them,” Rueda said, who also clarified that the requests are prioritized according to the state of the roads, where they are located, the type of soil and the type of use.
