Due to different positions on certain topics between feminist organizations, tomorrow Monday two civil society forums will be held, prior to the XVI Regional Conference on Women of Latin America and the Caribbean.
One of them is the feminist forum, linked to the international meeting, which will bring together national feminist and the region, while the other is the alternate feminist forum, in which members of some 60 groups that repudiated the terms of the call to the official forum participate.
The organizing committee of the feminist forum said that this is a Autonomous and historical space of critical and plural articulation
in response to the accusations made by other groups that denounced censorship and exclusion
And they sent a complaint letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization, António Guterres, where they stated that the registration was denied to the meeting to recognized feminist
what they described as a clear act of ideological censorship.
Given this, in a pronouncement, the organizing groups of the feminist forum said that it is a Political and strategic encounter in which feminist organizations in the region debate, agree and mobilize proposals to influence intergovernmental agreements
.
They detailed that this meeting will be on August 11 As critical prelude
of the XVI Regional Conference on Women, which will be inaugurated by President Claudia Sheinbaum, UN authorities and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). This international meeting will be from August 12 to 15 at the Tlatelolco University Cultural Center.
Silvia Soler, Interim Director of the Simone Leadership Institute of Beauvoir explained that to avoid the problems that arose at the last conference held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, almost three years ago, in the call to the meeting it was specified that those who register should have a broad framework of rights that protect the dignity of all people, including sex workers and trans women
.
Soler said to The day that before the controversy We remove that paragraph of the call, and invite you to register, in an eagerness for constructive dialogue. That did not happen, they did not register or echo that we removed the paragraph in the eagerness of a collective dialogue
.
In the feminist forum, which will be attended by some 600 members of movements, networks and articulations, it will be analyzed how to advance in the issue of care and policies for gender equality.
Abolitionist feminists who criticized the call consider that Prostitution is not work, it is exploitation
and? Being a woman is not a feeling, but a biological and historical reality
. They do not share either Genus theory based on self -perceived identity
among other aspects.
