The general director of the National Population and Identity Registry (Renapo), Félix Arturo Arce Vargas, announced during his participation in the last Afore Biometric curpa reinforced version of the unique population registration key that incorporates biometric data to strengthen the right to identity and prevent the supplant of people.

This new document, regulated by the Published Decree On July 16, 2025 in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), it will be the National Document of Mandatory Identification with Universal Acceptance throughout the Mexican territory, available in physical and digital formats.

What includes biometric CURP?
In addition to traditional data (name, surname, date of birth, sex/gender, place of birth and nationality), the biometric curp will incorporate photography of the face, fingerprints of both hands, iris scan and electronic signature.
Its integration will be in charge of the Ministry of the Interior, through Renapo, through two mechanisms:
- Existing biometric data transfer in other units, with prior authorization of the holder.
- Direct capture in modules enabled by Segob.
“It is voluntary and free for the population. It does not replace other identifications such as the INE, and its objective is to shield our identity, not put it at risk,” said Arce Vargas, who also clarified that data such as voice, DNA or blood samples will be taken.

Requirements for adults
- Certified and updated birth certificate.
- Proof of recent domicile (no more than three months),
- Official identification in force with photography.
- Active personal email.
Data safety and protection
The document will include a QR code That only authorized authorities can read to access biometric data, which will not be printed.
Key implementation dates
July 17, 2025: Entry in force of the decree.
October 15, 2025: Deadline for developing the unique identity platform, enabling data integration mechanisms and that all dependencies include the CURP as a requirement in process and services.
November 14, 2025: Deadline for Segob to establish the biometric data integration program of girls, boys and adolescents.
October 16, 2025: All institutions must recognize biometric CURP as a valid document.
Sanctions
- The authorities and individuals who fail to comply with the obligations related to the biometric CURP may receive fines from 10,000 to 20,000 times the daily value of the UMA, after warning.
