Number of people looking for work for more than two years drops by 17.3%

A survey made for 6th career observatory and market conducted by PUCPR CAREERS, sector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR), revealed that 50% of layoffs in 2024 were caused by behavioral reasons. Then appear the automation of activities (25%), cost reduction and expenditure cuts (25%). The research was attended by 3,631 students, 3,655 Alumni (alumni) and 583 human recruitment companies.Half of the layoffs in 2024 was caused by behavioral reasons

“The market values professionals who unite technical competence and skills for good coexistence. A single individual with negative attitudes can compromise the whole team, conflicts, productivity falls and talents are lost. So you need to look at self -knowledge,” explains PUCPR CAREERS coordinator, Luciana Mariano.

According to her, success is increasingly based on the combination of knowing how to do the tasks and knowing how to live with people.

“More than mastering tools or processes, it is necessary to develop emotional intelligence, empathy, respect and responsibility in relationships, and always self -evaluate, wondering about their posture in everyday relationships and their way of dealing with emotions and others in the workplace,” he says.

The study showed that last year the most valued skills were oral communication (11.46%), planning (10.73%), problem resolution (10.18%), conflict management (7.51%) and written communication (7.42%).

According to the study, compared to 2021, when companies dealt directly with the effects of the pandemic, there is a change in priorities, with problem solving skills (12.58%) occupying the top of the list.

The survey points out that 76% of respondents are investing in the acquisition of new knowledge, which demonstrates a proactive stance to prevent stagnation and strengthen employability. In addition, 16.32% of companies interviewed prioritize those who show interest in updating themselves.

Luciana stressed that market movements happen quickly and what matters is how each one positions himself in the face of these transformations.

“Updating knowledge and developing new skills is a necessity. Those who maintain constant learning can adapt to change, identify opportunities and share knowledge. This practice helps not only in the individual career, but also in the performance of organizations, who need people prepared to learn, change and collaborate,” he said.
