A 42 -year -old woman died Friday afternoon in Matanzas after receiving an electric shock caused by lightning, in what would be the fourth victim for this cause in less than a week in Cuba.
The accident occurred near the town of La Luisa, in the Yumurino municipality of Colón, when the victim was doing agricultural work, according to information from the Management Center for Disaster Risk Reduction (CGRRD).
“We regret the loss of a life in this tragic event,” said the publication of the entity on social networks, where they specified that the management position of the General Teaching Hospital “Mario Muñoz Monroy” notified the death of the woman to the civil defense of the Matanzer territory.
This is the fourth death that occurs in Cuba due to electric shocks in less than a week. Last Sunday, in Manicaragua, Villa Clara, three minors lost their lives because of the same cause.
The deceased were a 14 -year -old girl and two men, 14 and 13, respectively. The largest of them resided in the United States and was in Cuba on vacation, according to information from the provincial government of Villa Clara.
The electric shock, which occurred during a storm, also caused injuries to a fourth minor, 14 years old. The girl evolved favorably, conscious and oriented, after receiving medical attention at the José Luis Miranda Pediatric Hospital, where she was admitted to the intermediate therapy room.
Last June Two other teenagers died when they were achieved by a ray in Bauta, in the province of Artemis.
The minors, aged 13 and 16, played outdoor football when at 5:30 in the afternoon they received the impact of an electric shock prior to the rain and died at the time, according to what is reported then.

Electric discharges occur especially in June, July and August due to summer storms. This stage is the most dangerous because the high heating of the air in contact with the earth’s surface makes these facts more frequent.
According to a study by the Institute of Meteorology of 2020, the annual average in Cuba is 54 deaths due to ray impact. The information itself details that 1742 people died by rays between 1987 and 2017, a figure that exceeds the number of human losses left by hurricanes, tornadoes, intense rainfall events and coastal flooding and other natural disasters on the island.
