The Ministry of Health holds this Saturday (9) another day of vaccination against measles in Tocantins. More than 74 thousand doses were sent to the 139 municipalities of the state, with the objective of reinforcing the protection against cases from outside Brazil.
The disease advances in the Americas, especially in Bolivia, and 17 imported cases were recorded in Campos Lindos, Tocantins. Three others are under investigation in the city.
Since the beginning of the year, almost 30,000 doses of the triple viral, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella, have been applied in the state.
The Ministry of Health also intensifies vaccination in cities bordering Bolivia and in municipalities of Maranhão near the border with the state.
Indication
The vaccine is free in the Unified Health System (SUS) and suitable for those between 6 months and 59 years old. Just look for the nearest health post.
Measles is highly contagious and can be transmitted when coughing, sneezing or speaking. An infected person can transmit the virus to up to 90% of people around them.
In Brazil, in March, five imported cases were confirmed in different states, but all were controlled with vaccination block. Therefore, the ministry reinforces that vaccination is the best way to keep the country free of measles.
