The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, classified as “counterproductive” the mix of political and economic agendas in US relations with Brazil.
At an event in Recife, he said that the way the United States use tariffs will have bad consequences in terms of employment, but Brazil is already mobilizing to alleviate these effects, accessing new markets and destinations for its products.
Costa Filho participated, this Saturday (9), the Seminar Sphere Infra. He divided the table with the ministers of the cities, Jader Filho; and the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), Vinícius de Carvalho.
“Unfortunately, the decision [dos EUA] It was mixed with the amnesty agenda, of interest to those most radical scholarship sectors. Defending this is counterproductive with Brazil because employment is neither right nor left. Employment is from the Brazilian people. We are hurting thousands of companies because of this taxation, ”said the minister of ports and airports.
Alternative markets
According to the minister, in just under 8 months of Donald Trump government, the US is being “taken to recession, increased unemployment and increased inflation, impairing the world economy.”
He said, however, that, on the other hand, the taxation of the United States against Brazilian products eventually reinforced the Brazilian strategy of seeking alternative markets.
“In just under two and a half years, the Lula government opened more than 390 new markets. I look at this US decision as a moment of reflection. We wouldn’t like it, but since it happened, the productive sector itself will accelerate what was already happening by opening new markets with Asia, Europe and other countries,” said Costa Filho.
The Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, said he hoped that internal questions will emerge in the US scenario, in order to review the foreign policies implemented by that country.
“I have the impression that the big heads of the United States will press to lower this ball, and that this madness that is established in the US international politics will end,” said Jader Filho.
Also present at the event, CGU minister Vinicuis de Carvalho drew attention to the fact that the Trump government suspended some US legislation that predicted punishment to US companies that corrupt public servants from other countries.
Brazil, according to him, has, since the end of the military dictatorship, has advanced in the construction of institutions aimed at international cooperation and the multilateral governance of agendas.
“This happened in several areas, and also in the combat and confrontation of corruption, which occurs on three pillars, transparency, supervision and sanctioning. All in a context of creation of state capabilities and in the context of civil society participation,” he said.
