A 42 -year -old Cuban dies after the impact of a ray in Matanzas

A study of the Institute of Meteorology indicates that rays constitute the main cause of death due to natural phenomena in Cuba.

Lima, Peru – A 42 -year -old Cuban died in Matanzas this Friday after Rayo impacted her when she worked in a field near the La Luisa community, municipality of Colón.

According to a study by the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), the rays constitute the main cause of death due to natural phenomena in Cuba. Between 1987 and 2017, it was recorded An annual average of 54 deaths from electric shocksconcentrated especially in the months of June, July and August.

This tragic incident adds to another recent event that occurred in the municipality of Manicaragua, in the province of Villa Clara, where three minors died and a teenager was injured after the impact of a ray during a storm that occurred on the afternoon of August 3.

According to information shared by the Cuban News Agency (ACN), The fatal victims were identified as: Jorge Alejandro de la Coba Monteagudo, male, 14, vacationist from the United States; Andy Alberto Turiño González, male, 13; and Analía García Rodríguez, female, 14.

A minor fourth, Delgado Delgado Granados, also 14 years old, was injured by the electric shock. She was immediately transferred by the Integrated Medical Emergency Service (SIUM) to the José Luis Miranda Pediatric Hospital, in the city of Santa Clara, where she received specialized care.
