Internal tourism during Carnival left an economic impact of more than $200 million

One million 170 thousand people who circulated nationwide in private cars, as well as on board public transport from the Albrook Terminal, left an economic contribution of approximately 234 million balboas in internal tourism, during the days off for the Carnival.

As reported by the Statistics Department of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), travelers spent an average of 200 balboas per person, including food, transportation and recreational activities. The report from the Statistics Department of the ATP also reflected that, during the days of carnival, hotels in the interior of the country reported 100% occupancy, representing a significant economic injection in the tourism industry sector.

The ATP revealed that people chose to visit areas such as Boquete, Pedasí, Bocas del Toro, Santa Catalina, El Valle, Isla Taboga, sites integrated in the Tourism Master Plan, as well as Boca Chica, Isla Colón, Isla Coiba la Rivera Pacifica, among other places. They highlighted that at least 130,000 cars were displaced, including 5-passenger sedans, minibuses, and 45-passenger buses.
