The Archbishop of Santa Cruz, Monsignor Sergio Gualberti, assured that in the face of aggression against Ukraine there can be no neutrality and inertia. He added that the Russian invasion responds to an “expansionist project” that is causing many victims.
“What causes even more concern is that the clouds of global conflict and the use of nuclear weapons hang over this unhappiness. In the face of this aggression that has aroused indignation and repudiation in almost the entire world, there can be no neutrality and inertia,” Gualberti said during his homily.
On March 2, the national representation before the United Nations Organization, led by Diego Pary, abstained from voting for or against the resolution of the General Assembly, which deplores the invasion of Russia, demanding that put an end to it immediately, and withdraw its military forces from Ukraine.
The text obtained 141 votes in favor, five against and 35 abstentions, among them that of the representation of Bolivia.
Gualberti assured that adhering to the repudiation is the true way of showing solidarity with the Ukrainian people under attack, of reaffirming the principles that resorting to violence is always reprehensible and that every people has the inalienable right to be the manager of their destiny and to live in freedom and in peace.
“These days we are witnessing the armed and arbitrary invasion of Ukraine, which responds to an expansionist project that is causing many victims, especially civilians, so much pain and destruction of public buildings and homes, and the exodus, so far, of one million and a half of fugitives: children, women and the elderly”, he indicated.
