That day, at 12:00 hours, millions of Mexicans will receive a special message and sound on their devices to warn that it is an ongoing drill.
The test seeks to add a new alert mechanism to warn the population before an earthquake, complementing the traditional seismic alert that is heard in speakers from different areas of the country.
Next, we tell you what the message and the sound you will receive will be, as well as what you need so that your cell phone is activated this new early alert function.
How will your phone sound?
Through a video on social networks, the National Civil Protection Coordination He announced the sound that millions of cell phones will emit during the drill, which is different from the seismic alert.
In addition to the sound, the following message will also be received: “This is a drill – this is a message to prove the functionality of the National Alerts System of the Government of Mexico – this is a drill.”
According to civil protection authorities, it is expected to reach more than 80 million mobile phones throughout the national territory.
Requirements for your phone to sound at the National drill
In order for the cell phone to issue the alert during the national drill, it is not necessary to have an Internet connection, telephone balance or install some special application. The only requirement is that the equipment has a cell signal and that the function of wireless alerts is activated.
These alerts are part of the National Alerts System of the Government of Mexico and work in a similar way to a mass text message, but with the ability to activate the speaker and show a notice on the screen immediately, even if the phone is in silent mode.
Civil Protection authorities recommend users verify, from the configuration menu of their device, that the emergency alert option is enabled, since otherwise the message and the sound will not arrive.
