The communicator revealed that doctors suspended their treatment against the disease and will now receive only palliative care.
News Colombia.
Fredy Calvache, renowned journalist and former newspaper correspondent in the department of Cauca, is going through one of the most difficult moments of his life. Diagnosed in April 2025 with gastric cancer in an advanced state, disease cataloged as a terminal, today faces a critical stage in its treatment.
Through a video posted on his social networks, Calvache shared a message that has moved colleagues, friends and followers: “The news here is not very good.” The communicator explained that, after a meeting with his medical team, he was informed that they will suspend all the procedures to combat the disease.
“They give up continuing with the investigative and cancer treatment process as such,” he said. The medical decision is to focus only on palliative care to relieve symptoms and improve their quality of life, without surgical interventions or additional studies.
“There is no hope that they are motivated to do new surgery or a new study, so all we expect is that miracle that we expect from God so much,” Calvache said.
A message of faith and gratitude
Resident in Switzerland, Fredy has highlighted the work and dedication of the health team that attends it. Despite his delicate condition, he maintains constant communication with his audience, narrating each stage of his process and thanking the solidarity samples received.
In recent weeks, his condition was complicated due to an intestinal obstruction that required surgery, which aggravated his medical situation. Even so, his message remains full of faith and strength.
In his video, he called on his family, relatives and followers to accompany him with “prayers, good desires and positive energies” in this difficult stage.
