Despite the meeting of a joint command, Petro insists that Peru took its territory

Gustavo Petro Keep in denial. Although yesterday the general commanders of the Armed Forces of Colombia, Peru and Ecuador They had a friendly meeting between nations to reaffirm their commitment to security on the triple border, the Colombian president insists on ensuring that Leticia is part of Colombia.

Gustavo Petro’s statement occurred through social networks after a Colombian media interviewed a citizen of his country, who assured that Chinería (the island in which it contains Santa Rosa, Leticia and Tabatinga) is Peruvian territory.

“He returns and plays, the great Colombian press looking for Colombia to lose territory,” was what the president of Colombia said. In addition, in other publications he also added phrases such as “Colombia will not lose its river Amazonas” and “(…) now that it is really that they occupy territory that must be from Colombia, from the Government of Peru, they are glad.”

Arnold Pérez, Colombian administrator who was born in Leticia and has lived there practically his entire life, was interviewed by Radio Caracol, a medium in Colombia. During the interview, Pérez said that for more than 50 years ago, Chinería Island is Peruvian.

“This island has formed during the last 50 years, and it is an island that is very important for us, Leticia and Brazilians inclusive.

The citizen explained that in the Santa Rosa area there are military forces, marine, police, dirandro, customs, schools, mayor and other authorities, all of Peruvian nationality. “The people who live there tell me that since 1970 (there are) Peruvians or even before,” Pérez said.

During the same interview, he urged the Colombian government to worry about the border and the care that the Amazon river has in that area, which is currently in its worst drought.

Armed Forces Meeting

Yesterday, the General Commander of the Armed Forces of Colombia, Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides, announced a fraternal meeting with his counterparts from Peru and Ecuador, General David Ojeda Parra and Admiral Jaime Vela, respectively.

“A historical encounter in which, for the first time we define the areas of interest where we will soon be developing combined and simultaneous operations along the triple border to strongly affect the illegal armed structures that make criminal presence in this area”, which the General Commander of the Military Forces of Colombia, Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides, wrote on his social networks.

On the other hand, through an official statement, the Peruvian General Commander declared on this meeting and described it as “historical.” “Faced with the majestic Putumayo River, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, we seal the historical decision to unite our wills, capacities and military intelligence to guarantee peace in the triple border. […] There are no borders that divide us, we are free and sovereign nations, together with the commitment to our peoples. We are supported by the legitimacy of our Constitutions and guides us to conviction that union is the greatest dissuasive force against illegality, for the sake of development. Peru, Ecuador and Colombia are standing. United, firm and determined. Because together, we are invincible! ”Ejeda emphasized.

As announced by the Colombian forces, in this meeting, which took place within the framework of the “Tripartite of Military Intelligence”, the three nations defined, for the first time, the areas in which they will soon develop “combined and simultaneous operations”. The main objective is to affect illegal armed structures and the criminal organizations that operate in the area and that do not recognize territorial limits. “

For its part, Admiral Vela said that among the three nations “we have signed the road map for together to combat transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, illegal mining, illicit arms traffic, migration, smuggling and traffic of flora and fauna.”
