The Superior Court of Justice (STJ), in compliance with the request of the Public Prosecution Service of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), decided to keep the militia Toni Ângelo arrested in the Federal Penitentiary System. The former military policeman is one of the main leaders of the criminal organization Justice Leaguemilitia that exerts territorial control in the West Zone of Rio, in the neighborhood of Campo Grande.
In the request for the stay of the militia in federal prison, the MPRJ argues that Toni Ângelo was sentenced to more than 172 years in prison for the commission of various crimes, including qualified homicide, corpse concealment, extortion, criminal organization, receipt and possession of restricted use firearms. He remained in the lead of the criminal group until 2013, when he was shot and arrested.
In 2021, the former PM returned to the prison system of Rio de Janeiro, where he began approach with other militia. Given this, his transfer was authorized to the Federal Penitentiary System in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte.
“In this context, whether by maintaining the reasons that initially justified the insertion in Federal Prison, or for the results of the attempt to return to the State Prison, it is healthy that the defendant be maintained in the Federal Penitentiary System by 2027,” said the STJ.
