How much is a CETE?
Treasury certificates (CETS) are classified according to the investment period. Banxico has deadlines of 28, 91, 182, 364 and 707 days. The choice depends on the investment horizon of each person.
The nominal value of a CETE is 10 pesos, but it is sold with a discount rate, that is, the investor pays less of those 10 pesos and, at the expiration, receives the full value. The difference between the two represents the performance.
What performance do the CETES have today?
The yields of the CETES of the auction on Tuesday were mixed at the expectation for the future of the interbank interest rate of the Central Bank, whose current level is 8%, but a new cut is expected this week.
Analysts expect Banxico to cut the interest rate in 25 base points at your meeting on Thursday.
The CETES at 28 days arrested their fall as 0.02 points and offer a rate of yield of 7.5%.
The instruments 91 days decreased 0.12 units to reach 7.8%.
Bonds at 182 and 350 days also recorded reductions in the auction, to be 7.94% and 8.04%, respectively.
Although the CETES have had reductions, they are an attractive alternative to invest if the reference is taken, which is currently 3.55% at an annual rate, according to INEGI. That is, all the current deadlines of the CETs give a performance that doubles the price index, which makes them a valuable option to protect the money from the loss of purchasing power.
