The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, reaffirmed his idea of speaking on the national network to contribute from his inauguration to the defense of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC), with a view to the referendum on March 27 in which citizens must decide whether or not to repeal 135 articles of said legislation.
For the president, the “responsibility” of defending the LUC weighs on him, and he remarked that he will speak on radio and television in favor of it. However, he ruled out that he will participate in political acts “so as not to step on the line” because that “in a neighborhood can be confused with a political act.”
“A Law of Liberty”
“In a chain you have always seen me speak and I never spoke of a political party, nor against a political party,” he said, adding: “I feel entitled and obliged to speak because it is a bill that I came here to Cerro Largo and everywhere to defend”.
The president insists that, in the time that the law has been in force, he has not “found anyone who has said ‘the LUC harmed me’” because the government sees it as “a law of freedom”.
