Matanzas will host the All-Star Game of the 61st National Baseball Series in Cuba, as a reward for the solid sports performance that its squad exhibits today in the aforementioned tournament.
The long-awaited activity, which will bring together the most impressive players in the first two months of the competition, will fill the Victoria de Girón stadium with stars on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 March.
Such days will leave dissimilar options for lovers of the discipline of balls and strikes, with individual events -among them the home run derby-, and as a main course the Western versus Eastern matchup, when the possibility of organizing the challenge between veterans.
At a press conference held at the Latin American stadium in this capital, the news generated controversy, which is why commissioner Juan Reinaldo Pérez stated that the election was based on the results of the Crocodiles in the current contest, without forgetting the stability of the latest events.
Several specialists and followers (on social networks) showed dissatisfaction, since they understand that the provinces of Villa Clara and Mayabeque -they were the others evaluated along with Sancti Spíritus- had more elements in their favor to obtain the venue for the call.
However, Pérez argued that “the analyzes showed that Matanzas meets the established indicators,” but, in turn, highlighted the progress made by the remaining territories.
Regarding the controversy, suffice it to say that the team from Villa Clara led by mentor Pedro Jova managed to string together 10 consecutive victories, has a record of nine wins and one setback in the last clashes and accompanies Matanzas in second place in the general classification, with 18-11, whose leader is Mayabeque.
The current contest of the Caribbean country will begin tomorrow with new private matches and, precisely, the “dual meet” Villa Clara-Ciego de Ávila captures the most attention, as it is about two teams that are in the playoff access zone.
In addition, Cienfuegos-Sancti Spíritus, Isla de la Juventud-Santiago de Cuba, Industriales-Guantánamo, Pinar del Río-Holguín, Artemisa-Granma and Camagüey-Matanzas will compete, while the Mayabeque-Las Tunas match will be rescheduled due to positive cases of the SARS coronavirus. -CoV-2 in the first referral.
