Priorities
According to Lula, the priority of the Brazilian government, at this time, is to help Brazilian companies find new markets for their products and take care of job maintenance.
The text of the Provisional Measure (MP) with the actions planned by the government in response to the tariff must be sent to the Planalto Palace by the Ministry of Finance later this Wednesday (6).
Lula stressed that he sees no opening for negotiation with Trump at this time.
“I didn’t care because he doesn’t want to call. I don’t have to call President Trump, because in the letters he sent and in his decisions he doesn’t speak at any time in negotiation, what he says is in new threats,” said Lula.
Lula reaffirmed that he wants to do everything possible before “taking another measure that means negotiations [com os Estados Unidos] They are over. ”
“I’m doing all this [negociando] when it could announce a taxation of American products. I won’t do it because I don’t want to have the same behavior as President Trump. I want to show that when one does not want, two do not fight, and I do not want to fight with the United States. ”
The president recalled that Brazil received the statement of taxation in a totally authoritarian way.
“This is not how we are used to negotiating,” he said.
Intrusion
President Lula stated that it is not admissible that the US president decides to “give pitaco” in Brazil
“It is not a small intrusion, it is the President of the Republic of the United States thinking that it can dictate rules in a sovereign country like Brazil. It is not admissible that the United States and no large or small country decides to give a pitaco in our sovereignty,” he said.
“He who takes care of the United States, Brazil, we take care of this country, and only one owner who sends the President of the Republic, is the people, the people who elected, the people who can take.”
The president also cited excerpts from Trump’s decision that criticize Brazilian law on large American technology companies, Big Techs.
“This country is sovereign, has a constitution, has legislation. It is our obligation to regulate what we want to regulate according to the interests and culture of the Brazilian people. If you do not want regulation, leave Brazil,” said Lula.
