The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) will carry out a pilot program in Aguascalientes to recover the provision of hemodialysis service in the country, which is mostly operated by private companies.
With that objective, he made a public tender that the Creamedic company won, the same that installed the temporary hospitals in the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome and in the Banamex Center, among others, for the attention of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The contract will last three years and the company will take charge of building the medical unit and installing 94 hemodialysis machines. The IMSS reported that Aguascalientes was chosen because it has a large number of beneficiaries with chronic renal disease that require hemodialysis therapies, in addition to practically all are in the state capital.
Yesterday, during the conference in the National Palace, the director of the agency, Zoé Robledo, informed that this service was the one that registered the greatest privatization during administrations prior to those of the fourth transformation.
In addition to the high cost, quality is unequal among providers and every time the contracts conclude and the supplier changes, patients suffer because they have to go to different places.
Now, he explained, it will be IMSS workers who will provide attention to the beneficiaries and at the end of the contract, the facilities and equipment will become the property of the institute, so new tenders will be done only for the supply of inputs and maintenance tasks.
Chronic kidney disease is one of the six that represent the highest cost for Social Security. In 2024 the investment amounted to 33.4 billion pesos, 10.9 percent more than the previous year.
Of this amount, most of them went to dialysis and hemodialysis therapies for 83 thousand patients representing 0.22 percent of the beneficiaries.
The IMSS director explained that Creamedic has a health license and operating permits of the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks in particular for the use of Innovative construction materials
