Archbishop of Santiago supports the new Criminal Code

He Santiago Metropolitan ArchbishopMonsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguezissued a Public declaration in which he positively valued the recent promulgation of the new Criminal Codesigned by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.

In its pronouncement, Monsignor Rodríguez described this decision as “a long -awaited measure by Dominican society” and said the country urgently needed a New legal framework that respond properly to current challenges in justice, criminality and protection of fundamental rights.

“The current code had been outdated in the face of the complexities of the contemporary world in criminal matters, so its reform was a pending debt With the institutional order and with the common good, “said the religious leader.

He also expressed his confidence that this New legislation will strengthen the rule of law, the Respect for human dignity and will encourage one culture of legality that promotes justice, equity and social peace.

  • Monsignor Rodríguez too recognized the work of the different actors who participated in the approval of this reformespecially the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic, valuing its contribution to the institutional strengthening of the country.
