The current Congress of the Republic will not be remembered, precisely, for its valuable services to the country. With few exceptions, we talk about a parliamentary contingent that has mostly legislated in favor of particular interests already often in flagrant damage to the future of Peruvians.
That, without mentioning the amount of scandals and complaints of malicious activities that have accumulated in these last four years. It is not accidental, then, that the image of the institution is on the ground, with equal citizen approval figures as those recorded by the government.
And if this were not enough, less than a year after leaving their seats, these gentlemen continue with their shameless political tricks and maneuvers under the table. As Peru21 reported, the complaints that are frozen in the subcommission of constitutional accusations reach 41. A delay that, if we stick to certain cases, has practically another armor of the many that have been mounted in the hemicycle of the Plaza Bolívar.
These are complaints made by the Public Ministry, who, as the prosecutors themselves have let, if they continue there “encased” and do not reach the plenary to be voted, they will be without effect. That is, the denounced officials will be released from being suspended from the exercise of the public function, even if there are evidence against them. And that way they will have the free path to apply again to positions of popular election or assume positions in the Executive or in the state apparatus. Let us not forget that the closure of registrations to apply for Congress – Channels of Deputies and Senators – expires on December 23 of this year.
Thus, even the coup Pedro Castillo – with three pending constitutional complaints and two in process – could afford to apply in the next elections from his prison in the Barbadillo Fundo.
The same goes for other nefarious characters pass through the powers of the State that could be expedited to be chosen again to public office. An additional waste in a parliamentary contingent that no Peruvian will miss when, next year, his mandate completes.
