The union leader Mario Machuca Sánchez, leader of the Revolutionary Confederation of workers and peasants (Croc) in Cancun, was killed on Monday in broad daylight in a busy area of the city center. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed that it is a qualified homicide and opened an investigation folder to find those responsible.

According to local press information, the attack occurred around 2:00 p.m. at the crossroads of Kabah avenues with Chichén Itzá, in Supermanzana 42 of the municipality of Benito Juárez. It was also explained that, according to witnesses, the aggressors – who wore as distributors of a food delivery application – intercepted the union leader just when he left in his black Chevrolet Tahoe 2024 truck 2024 from a parking lot and opened fire from a motorcycle and fled the place.

For their part, agents of the Attorney General of Quintana Roo located both the motorcycle used and the cast backpack carried by one of the attackers. The victim died in the place as a result of gunshot wounds.

The authority reported that, as part of the initial proceedings, a possible mobile related to the labor activities of Machuca Sánchez is investigated, without ruling out other lines of research.

“The State Attorney General continues with the corresponding inquiries and maintains technological coordination, intelligence and monitoring through security cameras with authorities of the three government orders,” he explained in a statement.

Mario Machuca Sánchez, in addition to being the leader of the CROC in Cancun, was a federal deputy at the LXIII Legislature and local deputy in Quintana Roo. Within the PRI, he held charges as general secretary in Benito Juárez, president of the Municipal Committee and Political Counselor. He also served as secretary of the gastronomic union and the social link of the CROC CEN.

“The Croc Cancun deeply regrets the loss of a great human being and union leader (…) we want prompt resignation and strength to her family and loved ones,” the organization published.
