The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported an earthquake of magnitude 5, which was recorded at 1:34 pm on Monday, March 7, 2022.
According to the preliminary report, the epicenter was in The Saints, in Santander. Several municipalities of this department felt the movement.
In fact, the authorities of the 87 municipalities of that department are carrying out a sweep to verify that there is no structural damage.
The SGC added that the depth of the tremor was 154 km.
There are also reports that it was felt in Antioquia, Bogotá, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Tolima, Caldas, Norte de Santander, Bolívar, Casanare, Cesar and Quindío.
The preliminary report added that the perceived intensity was 5; that is, felt strongly.
According to the seismographs installed in the Chicamocha canyon, daily in the municipality of Los Santos between 12 and 20 shakes, that make this area of the country the second most active seismic nest on the planet, after the Hindu Kush region (Afghanistan) and surpassing the famous Carpathian Mountains (Romania).
