Relatives of political prisoners held in the Helicoid denounced a new measure imposed by officials of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin): As of this week, they can only take food on Fridays, suspending the daily delivery that until now was allowed.
The complaint was released by the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (Clippve) in its X account
They explained that the restriction applies to all the detainees in this headquarters, both men and women, and was notified without prior notice. This weekend, several families reported that, after making long queues and carrying prepared food, they were denied entry to the prison.
“In addition to isolation, incommunication and lack of visits, they now also take away the right to decent diet,” said the NGO in their post.

The measure adds to a series of conditions that violate the human rights of political prisoners in the country. Many of them have up to a year without receiving visits, without access to phone calls or contact with the outside. For their relatives, bringing food represented a way of guaranteeing their health and also maintaining a minimum affective bond, even if it was indirect.
«This not only compromises your physical well -being, it is also a very strong emotional blow. Remaking food is another form of punishment, ”they denounced.
Human rights organizations have warned that these types of restrictions can constitute cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. The Committee of Family members of political prisoners made an urgent call to the international community and the competent instances of the State to intervene, remembering that the right to food and personal integrity are protected by international treaties.
“We demand the cessation of these arbitrary measures, the restoration of visits, communications and respect for the dignity of all people deprived of liberty for political reasons,” they concluded in their pronouncement.
