From August 4 to 10, Havana will become the stage of the Fifth Festival “Havana Titiritera. Figures between cobblestones”, event that brings together national and international companies dedicated to the art of theater of puppets.
The festival has a program that will include functions, workshops, conferences and sensory experiences for early childhood, he said Latin press.
Organized by the National Council of Performing Arts and the Havana Theater Center, the Festival will be dedicated to two great figures of the Cuban culture: the Titiriterian teacher Armando Morales, on her 85th anniversary, and the children’s writer Dora Alonso, at 115 years of her birth.
The event will feature the international participation of artists from Mexico and Colombia as representatives of Latin America, as well as with the expected presence of the Korean puppeteer Young Wong, who will premiere in Cuba the work of the grandmother’s caresses.
Directed by Erduyn Maza and Arneldy Cejas, from the La Proa Theater Group, the piece will be presented with a completely Cuban cast and flat puppets. The assembly had its debut in South Korea in June with Cuban and Asian actors.

One of the most prominent moments of the festival will be the intervention of the project The Milky Wayaimed at children between zero and six years.
It is an immersive experience with music, fruits, seeds and sensory stimuli that involve free game and direct contact with natural elements.
“It is a way of interacting with early childhood from art,” said Isabel Cristina, theatrologist and advisor of the La Proa group.
Besides, The project will also reach children with special educational needs through inclusive musical proposals.

The event will also include the participation of students from the National School of Puppets, who will have a day dedicated to Dora Alonso’s work.
In addition, workshops, exhibitions and conferences will be offered, including the talk “El Puppere as a therapeutic tool in a narrative context”, by the Mexican psychologist and puppeteer Gilberto Palma, who visits Cuba for the second time.
As a novelty, the 2025 edition marks the official incorporation of Havana Titiritera to the Network of Puppet Festivals of the Puppet International Union (Unima)the oldest theater organization in the world.
