The opposition leader María Corina Machado expressed her deep regret for The death of Monsignor Mario Moronta whom he described as “an unwavering, intelligent and kind man of faith.”
Machado He highlighted Monsignor’s legacy as “tireless pastor” and recalled his tireless commitment to the most vulnerable, stressing that his service and love “will live forever in our hearts.”
In his words published in the social network X, he extended his condolences to the Moornta family, as well as the diocese of San Cristóbal and all the citizens of the Táchira who today regrets his departure.
“May God receive him in his glory and give us the strength to follow his example,” Machado said in his message, reaffirming the respect and admiration for the life and work of Monsignor Moronta.
Moronta, who was Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of San Cristóbal, died Monday at 76 years of age.

The news has generated a wave of condolences and tributes by the ecclesiastical and civil community, which recognize their legacy as a tireless pastor and defender of the most vulnerable.
In 2017, Moronta was part of the Venezuelan Church delegation then received in the Vatican by the then Pope Francis, after asking him for an audience to inform about the situation of Venezuela that lived at that time a serious crisis marked, among other factors, by numerous anti -government protests that left dozens of dead.
