Yeni Berenice: Nuevo Código Penal un avance histórico para la justicia dominicana

The Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, said today that The new Dominican Criminal Code, promulgated yesterday by President Luis Abinader, constitutes the most important legislative advance in criminal matters since the nineteenth century », highlighting that the old regulations were designed for a rural society, outside of organized crime and without the challenges that the digital age represents.

“Today we have advanced for the good of society. We not only have a new Criminal Code: we have a new vision of justice,” said the representative of the Public Ministry.

He stressed that this new legal framework responds to years of comparative analysis with regional laws, modern doctrine and international jurisprudence, and thanked all citizens who raised their voice for a real reform.

The new Dominican Criminal Code represents a key legislative advance in justice since the 19th century

“In the Public Ministry we have analyzed the new Criminal Code, object of comparisons with laws, jurisprudence, jurisprudence and doctrines, not only of the region, and our conclusion is that we have a good Criminal Code,” says the holder of the PGR in a statement.

“We are facing the most important legislative change in terms of, since 1884, because it was necessary not only to have a new penal code, but to advance to a new vision of justice centered on people, which we are committed to promoting from the Public Ministry,” he added.

The approval of the code was achieved despite sectors that pressed by setbacks, and thanks to legislators and political leaders who bet on progressive, fair and updated legislation.

For the first time in more than 140 years, the Dominican Republic has a new Criminal Code, according to the criminal realities of the present and the modern tendencies of criminal law.

Business scope

The National Council of Private Company (CONEP) defined as an important step step towards the modernization of the legal framework of the Dominican Republic, the approval of the new Criminal Code.

“We value that the country has updated criminal legislation, more in line with the challenges of the present and with the strengthening of the rule of law,” he said.

The CONEP affirmed its commitment to a justice that promotes legal certainty and citizen confidence, with a legal framework that accompanies the economic-social development of the country.

Churches

The Dominican Council of Evangelical Unity (CODUE) expresses its satisfaction and thanks for the recent promulgation of the new Criminal Code by the Executive Power, qualifying it as a transcendental milestone for the institutionality and strengthening of justice in the Dominican Republic.

Pastor Feliciano Lacen Custodio, president of Codue, values the commitment demonstrated by President Luis Abinader, whom he recognized for his coherence with the oath made before the National Assembly, to fulfill and enforce the Constitution.

“This is a work of great impact that will mark a before and after in the legislative history of the country,” he said.
