He National Private Company Council (CONEP) expressed on Monday his support for the promulgation of New Criminal Code of the Dominican Republic, when considering it an important step towards the Modernization of the legal system and strengthening of Rule of law.
In an official statement, the country’s main business guild acknowledged that the approval of this reform comes after “Years of debate and search for consensus”, and constitutes a more appropriate legal tool to face the challenges of the present.
“From the CONEP we recognize the approval of the new Criminal Code as an important advancement of the modernization of the legal framework of the Dominican Republic,” said the statement.
Commitment to institutional strengthening
The organization valued that the country finally has updated criminal legislation, and reaffirmed its commitment to an institutionality that constantly evolves, promotes the Legal security and guarantee Citizen trust.
“We reaffirm our commitment to a justice that promotes legal certainty and citizen confidence, and with a legal framework that accompanies the economic and social development of the country,” says the statement.

He CONEP He also acknowledged that, as in any process of legal reform of great size, there are social sectors with divergent opinions, which he considered a legitimate part of the democratic debate.
“We understand that there are sectors of society with different points of view, and raising positions that must continue to be heard as part of the democratic debate,” added the business union.
