María Acuña led the accusations subcommittee without declaring that she had a criminal fraud investigation

The congresswoman María Acuña Peralta presided over the Subcommission of constitutional accusations of the Congress while facing a criminal investigation for procedural fraud and slanderous complaint, in open contradiction with the parliamentary regulation. According to the fiscal document revealed by ‘Panorama’the Public Ministry formalized a preparatory investigation against him in June 2024, when he already served, which disabled it to lead that key body, in charge of evaluating constitutional complaints against senior state officials.

The criminal complaint dates back to a conflict for the delivery of lots in Chiclayo between the company Los Alizos EIRL, in which Acuña was a manager, and the businessman Sergio Ciccia, who accused her after being sued for alleged falsification of documents. An official expertise determined that the firm in dispute belonged to Acuña itself, which gave rise to the criminal accusation. Despite this, he did not inform the Congress of his status as investigated and led key processes, such as the archiving of complaints against Dina Boluarte for the Rolex case and deaths in protests.

The criminal complaint against María Acuña

Congresswoman María Acuña Peralta faces a criminal investigation for the alleged crimes of procedural fraud and slander related to an urban authorization contract that included the delivery of land as a form of payment.

According to the fiscal file, the Alizos failed to deliver between 15 and 20 lots valued by approximately 40 thousand dollars each. To avoid this delivery, the company filed a complaint claiming falsification of signatures in a contractual minute. However, an official expertise ordered by the Public Ministry determined that the firm in question corresponded to María Acuña herself. With that result, the Prosecutor’s Office formalized in June 2024 a preparatory investigation against the current parliamentarian.

Despite being aware of the process – even testimony in April 2023 – Acuña did not inform the Congress about its status as investigated, which would violate the parliamentary regulation that prohibits congressmen with open criminal proceedings to preside over commissions such as constitutional accusations.
