Two deceased and 27 injured, among which is a minor, is the preliminary balance of a Traffic accident Mass occurred this Saturday in Granma province, shortly after a similar event with two injured.
One of the victims of this morning lost his life in the place, while the other died at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital, in Bayamo, where the injured were sent.
The fatal victims were identified as Aracelis Torres Almarales, 60 years old, and Ismael Gómez de la Masa Areces, 51, according to the territorial television of Granma from Facebook.
The event occurred when the driver of a leased bus, belonging to the National Center for Scientific Research of Biocufarma, which covered the Havana-Santiago de Cuba route, lost control and ended up hitting a fixed obstacle, according to this source.
The incident took place at 1.35 in the morning of this Sunday in the section known as kilometer 727, of the Bayamo – Tunas road.
The conditions for the specialized care of the injured are guaranteed, with the necessary medical staff and resources, according to information provided by Dr. Adonis Frometa Guerra, general director of the CM de Céspedes hospital.
Frómeta Guerra also said that of the total injured, 6 are surgically intervened.
Joint forces of the Ministry of Interior investigate the causes of such unfortunate event and the local authorities had appeared to the place.
Bayamo-Holguín section
Shortly before, the same source had informed two injured in another accident on the Bayamo-Holguín road, in a fact that involved a private car and a tourism vehicle, whose occupants suffered effects of diverse magnitude, but without danger to life.
Those affected were identified as: Orestes Villares Báez, driver of the private car; Yunieski Bertho Camejo, passenger of the tourism car, with minor injuries and Eduardo Pérez Rojas, driver of the tourism vehicle, unharmed.
The causes of this other fact are still under investigation, although witnesses indicated speeding as a possible factor. The injured were treated at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital.
Traffic accidents are a frequent cause of deceased and injured in Cuba. According to official data, 173 people died in those accidents on the island in the first quarter of the year, 18 % more than in the same period of 2024.
