The 2022 school year began with protests. It is about the educational community of the República de Venezuela school, Avenida Justo Arosemena, in Calidonia, where they went out to protest to demand the speeding up of the construction project of the new campus.
Since 2017, the facilities of this school have been closed with the aim of starting construction, but over the years no progress has been shown.
The students of this educational center have been housed for years in temporary classrooms in the Poli building and other facilities. The Bolívar Commercial Institute also operated in this same structure.
The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, went to the school to address the concerns of the protesters, stating that next week the Ministry of Education (Meduca) will present the report on the administrative follow-up of the public tender.
He emphasized that parents have the responsibility to bring the children to teach their classes and the teachers to teach and serve them.
For her part, the director of the educational center, Iris Amaya, said that the teachers decided to carry out the picketing together with the parents in a peaceful way. “They are concerned about the situation that has been taking place in the tender for the construction of the campus, which has been delayed, they have concerns about it,” she indicated.
He added that at the moment they are not receiving students. “We maintain the conditions to serve them, but logically if there are no teachers, we cannot serve the students. We lack chairs and we still have two teachers to appoint, but the minister already told us that this week they should be arriving,” he said.
According to the director, enrollment has increased and at the moment they have around 685 students enrolled.
It should be noted that in August of last year, Meduca launched the tender for more than $17 million for the project of studies, designs, development of plans and construction of the Escuela República de Venezuela and Instituto Comercial Bolívar.
During this process one of the participating companies challenged.
The company that wins the tender must demolish 4,500.00 m2 and carry out the total cleaning of all the structures, including the foundations of the República de Venezuela School (ground floor and two upper floors), in addition to 1,500.00 m2 of pavement demolition in the internal courtyard and 667.86 m2 of demolition and total pavement cleaning on the perimeter sidewalk.
