A voracious fire broke out at dawn on Thursday, July 31 at the hotel facilities “On Vacation Amazon”, located in the area of Leticia, capital of the Department of Amazonas. The flames consumed a large part of the infrastructure, forcing the urgent evacuation of dozens of national and foreign tourists who were staying.

According to the first reports of the local authorities, the fire would have originated in the kitchen area, although the exact causes of the incident are still investigated.
Fortunately, fatalities or serious injuries are not reported, but considerable material losses. Leticia firefighters, with support from the Air Force and relief organizations, worked for several hours to control the flames and prevent fire from spreading to nearby jungle areas.
The hotel, one of the most recognized in the “ON VACATION” chain in the Amazon region, suspended all its operations while an assessment of damage is advanced. Environmental authorities also monitor possible ecological impacts in the area, since the tourist complex is close to protected areas.
Several affected tourists were transferred to alternative accommodations while investigations are advanced.
