The Pichincha Criminal Guarantees Court, Ecuador, sentenced Jean Pierre Pazos Puente to find him guilty of his mother, a crime that shocked the Alangasí community in September 2024. The sentence was announced this Wednesday, July 30, 2025 by the State Attorney General’s Office.
The case goes back to the night of September 2, 2024, when Pazos, 30, argued with her mother because she asked her to order her room and pick up some books. Hours later, in the early hours of September 3, he strangled her and suffocated until she kill her.
With the aim of hiding the crime, the subject bought a black suitcase where he placed the body. He dragged him about 300 meters from his home to a remote road, where he threw it into a trench one meter deep. Then, it changed clothes in a nearby park and returned home, pretending normal.
Upon learning of the body’s discovery, he lied to his family and said that his mother had gone on a trip to Otavalo. However, on September 6, he appeared at the Prosecutor’s Office to report the disappearance and that same day he recognized his mother’s body in legal medicine.
Security cameras and 18 multimedia files provided by the Prosecutor’s Office, as well as DNA tests and psychological expert opinions, were key in the judicial process. Although Pazos claimed that he did not want to kill her, the exams revealed that he acted in a “voluntary and conscious” way, without suffering from any mental disorder.
The Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that the crime was especially violent and premeditated, which is why the court increased the penalty to 40 years, beyond the usual range of 22 to 36 years contemplated in article 140 of the Organic Integral Criminal Code (COIP). This, due to the use of physical violence against a woman.
In addition to the deprivation of liberty, the sentenced must pay $ 20,000 as a comprehensive repair to the heirs of his mother.
