The engineer Willian Alva, founding president of the Peruvian Society of Meteorologists of Peru, said that the recent intense winds in regions of the center and south of the country respond to a usual atmospheric behavior.
He recalled that the so -called “Paracas winds” usually register in areas such as Ica and Nasca during this time, although this time their presence has been more noticeable for its momentary intensity.
“It is not a new or abnormal event,” said Alva for Channel N, who said that this system can approach the coast and influence the weather without implying a direct threat. He stressed that citizens should not be alarmed and that it is a seasonal variation of winter.
Regarding the recent earthquake in Russia, it ruled out any link with the winds registered in Peru. “There is no relationship between that event and the current winds on the Peruvian coast,” he said. Finally, he urged the media and authorities to communicate with rigor: “We must communicate with responsibility, because we are to inform, not to scare.”
