National Consumer Secretary Wadih Damous reported today (31) that he notified the channeled natural gas distributors and vehicle natural gas, CNG, so that they explain the prices charged to consumers. The notification was made after Petrobras Announce a 14% reduction in the price of the gas molecule supplied to distributors. The reduction begins to be valid from tomorrow (1st).
Damous said during an interview with Voice of Brazilthat although the reduction in the average price of the molecule has been about 32%since 2022, the average consumer transfer has been varied from 1%to 4%.
“We decided to notify distributors to explain this situation. Petrobras has reduced prices by 14% and, virtually, they will maintain the price of consumers already pay,” he said.
The secretary wants companies to explain because the percentage of reduction is at such a tiny level for consumers. If the answer is not satisfactory, the government studies applying sanctions.
“If it is configured for us that they are practicing abusive prices, that they are increasing the profit margin at the expense of the end consumer, we will institute sanctioning administrative process,” warned Damous.
The secretary also said that consumers can assist, making complaints to the procons and also reporting in the channels of the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon).
The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, ANP, was also notified to collaborate with technical data.
The Sao Paulo Gas Company, the Rio de Janeiro Gas Distribuidora de Janeiro, the Santa Catarina Gas Company, the Paraense Gas Company, the Mato Grosso do Sul State Gas Company, the Brasiliano Distribuidora SA, Sinergás GNV do Brasil Ltda.
