Trump concrete tariffs of 50 % to Brazil and Lula repudiates the “political motivation” of the fact

Trump concrete tariffs of 50 % to Brazil and Lula repudiates the "political motivation" of the fact

President Donald Trump signed several decrees on Wednesday, including the 50 % tariff to Brazilcountry already threatened with the measure in letter to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the beginning of the month.

In this letter, Trump relates the new rate to the trial that is taken against former right -wing president Jair Bolsonaro, so Lula da Silva now reiterates that his government “considers unjustifiable” the use of political arguments to validate commercial measures.

Sanctions to Alexandre de Moraes

The announcement occurs on the same day that the United States sanctioned the Judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil Alexandre de Moraes, who imposed a series of precautionary measures to former president Jair Bolsonaro, processed by coup attempt, as an electronic ankle and the prohibition of using social networks.

The Department of the Treasury detailed in a statement that the sanctions are framed in the Magnitsky Law, which authorizes the US government to sanction foreign citizens involved in acts of corruption or human rights violations.

It is a new pressure measure by the Trump administration, an ally of Bolsonaro, which on July 18 already revoked Visa A de Moraes and forbade him to enter American territory.

Political motivation against Brazil

Lula da Silva stressed that “the interference of the United States government in the Brazilian justice system is unacceptable.”

He also added that “the political motivation behind the measures against Brazil Socava National sovereignty and the historical relationship between the two countries.”

However, he stressed that “Brazil maintains its willingness to negotiate the commercial aspects of its relationship with the United States, but will not renounce the country’s defense instruments contemplated in its legislation.”

In addition, he says that the country “defends multilateralism and harmonious coexistence between nations, which has ensured the strength of our economy and the autonomy of our foreign policy.”

Along with this, he insists that the Brazilian economy “is increasingly integrated with key international markets and partners” and who have already begun to “evaluate the impacts of these measures and to develop actions to support and protect workers, companies and Brazilian families.”

Other Tariffs of the Day

Trump also imposed “universal tariffs of 50 % to imports of semi -finished copper products”, including tubes, cables and sheets, and “derived products with high copper content”, according to the White House in a statement.

Brazil reacts to 50 % tariffs announced by Trump, Lula says that the measure “will be answered”

These new tariffs, framed in a policy that seems to resemble the behavior of a spoiled child, will take effect tomorrow, August 1 and include exceptions for copper products that are already subject to automotive tariffs.

“The Brazilian government considers unjustifiable the use of political arguments to validate the commercial measures announced by the US government against Brazilian exports. Brazil has accumulated an important commercial deficit of goods and services with the United States during the last decades,” said the president of Brazil.
