The Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafe) advocates the inclusion of coffee on the list of Brazilian products that will be left out of the tax imposed by the United States by 50%.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump, officialized the proposal for taxation of Brazilian products Marketed with the country, with coffee included in the products to be taxed. The executive order brings about 700 exceptions, such as orange juice and pulp, fuels, ores, fertilizers and civil aircraft, including their engines, parts and components.
Cekafé says it will continue to deal with its peers from the United States, such as the National Coffee Association (NCA), so that the product is part of the list of exceptions prepared by the US government.
“The act will result in excessive elevation of prices and inflation, since these taxes will be passed on to the American population at the time of purchase,” says the statement signed by the president of the Cecafé Deliberative Council, Márcio Ferreira, and the director general of the entity, Marcos Matos.
According to the entity, the coffee relationship between the United States and Brazil is “indispensable to each other”, and Brazilian coffee represents more than 30% of the US market. Brazil is the main exporter of coffee to the United States.

The board also stated that the United States account for 16% of Brazilian exports of the product, highlighting the relevance of the relationship with the United States:
“Coffee is also of great relevance to the United States, given that 76% of the American people consume the drink; the population spends about $ 110 billion on coffee and related items (US $ 301 million per day) per year.”
According to the Brazilian Association of Specialty Coffee (BSCA) says that the measure will impact the Special Coffee community and the segments involved with quality coffees worldwide, especially Brazil.
The United States is the main importing market of Brazil’s specialty coffees, acquiring approximately 2 million bags of this product, at revenue of over US $ 550 million per year.
