Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Wednesday (30), that the tension generated around the announcement of US tariffs (USA) to Brazilian products is artificial and will dissipate. According to the minister, conversations with the US authorities are evolving and, even with the entry into force of the tariffs, promised to August 1, the negotiations will continue.
“If it depends on Brazil, this tension disappears, because it is artificial. And produced by people in the country. That is, it makes no sense Brazilians to feed this tension. This tension will dissipate and, when dissipating, rationality will preside over the work, and we will reach a denominator,” Haddad said in conversation with journalists at the Ministry of Finance in Brasilia.
He made reference to Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who, in March, graduated from the term in the House, went to the United States and articulates actions with the US government against the Brazilian justice and the economy in attempt to rid his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, from the trial for attempted coup d’état. Eduardo Bolsonaro is investigated in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) due to this performance.
On the last day, US President Donald Trump sent Letter to Lula announcing the imposition of the 50% rate on all Brazilian products from August 1. In the document, among other reasons, Trump justifies the measure citing Bolsonaro and asking amnesty for the former president.

Haddad recalled that the vice president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, is leading negotiations and maintains conversations with the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick. The Minister of Finance reaffirmed that it is necessary to wait on August 1 to understand what, in fact, will come into force, as the US government did not officially respond to the proposals of the Brazilian government.
“We need to know what the US government’s decision is. Before that, it is very difficult,” said Alckmin, noting that communication with his counterpart is evolving. He said he can travel to the United States accompanying the vice president. “Once you have a structured agenda, yes. I’ve been to California with the secretary [do Tesouro dos Estados Unidos, Scott] BessentI have tried to contact him, who is in Europe closing agreements. But his staff said he has a possibility of a conversation when he returns to the United States, ”added Haddad.
