OAS prepares your road map to combat the humanitarian crisis in Haiti

The permanent representative of Haiti before the OAS, Myrtha Désulme, presented the serious humanitarian and security situation facing her country, and requested greater solidarity and urgent action by the international community


The general secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, opened on Wednesday 30 the first meeting of the group of friends of Haiti, with the aim of preparing a road map to face the humanitarian and security crisis that that country is going through.

As detailed by the OAS in a statement, the road map will be presented soon before the permanent council of the agency and will be structured around five strategic pillars: security stabilization, humanitarian response, political consensus, electoral legitimacy and sustainable development.

Ramdin offered updated information on the preparation of the document, a mandate emerged from the last general assembly of the OAS, which ordered to address the challenges in security, humanitarian assistance and governance in Haiti.

In addition, he proposed to convene a donor conference, under the leadership of the Inter -American Development Bank (IDB), to coordinate international financial support.

During the meeting, the permanent representative of Haiti before the OAS, Myrtha Désulme, presented the serious humanitarian and security situation facing her country, and requested greater solidarity and urgent action by the international community.

Also participated officials and representatives of international organizations such as the IDB, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (Binuh), the multinational mission of support for security (MSS) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), among others, participated.

In the last general assembly of the OAS, held in June in Antigua and Barbuda, the United States urged member states to increase their contributions to the multinational security mission deployed last year in Haiti.
